Got to 20s! Check out the short video for the official temp!

We could see our breaths today! Michael Sr. said “it’s in the 20s, are you guys going out running?!”

As Nini said during our run, “It’s cold but we’re doing it!” I lent Nini my scarf 1/4 way through and she was fine. We did 10-minute Run intervals which felt GREAT and warmed us up. Mika ran indoors on the treadmill! Michael Sr. joined us for the cool down. Michael Jr. stayed indoors and ate his oatmeal before school.

Change

Feeling so sick over four years ago and not wanting to leave my children with no mother made me decide to change and beg God to give me another chance to repair the body that He gave me that I had so abused with unhealthy food and lack of fitness. Take that first step, please. You are so worth it!

Got Colder, Ran Faster

This morning it got down to the 30s! My husband asked, “Will you guys be going outside running when it gets in the 20s?!”

“No!” I think that’s my limit. 🙂 I need to start saving and budgeting for another treadmill so we can run together indoors when the ice and freezing temps come.

This morning we had on sweaters, hats, and mittens and I wished I had a scarf. Maybe tomorrow as it’s predicted to be 31 in the morning again.

One good thing–we worked on speed a little. When it’s that cold you have no choice but to run faster!

Running Solo

It was sunny and cold today—perfect running weather! I ran in the yard solo for 51 minutes and did a longer run of three, 17-minute intervals of running with a 1-minute walk in between. It was long, tough, and slow but by God’s Grace I kept moving well and felt great toward the end. Several city buses came by during my run and I could spot them down my driveway as I circled my small yard. After the 3rd bus, I chuckled to myself thinking how ironic it was that I used to have great difficulty even running to catch a bus but that I could run the bus’ one-mile route to reach the train station if I wanted to. I thank God for his grace in helping me to be successful in living a whole food plant based lifestyle, become slim, and be able to move and run!

Plant Based Party!

I love it when the grocery shopping and delivery person asks what I’m going to do with all those sweet potatoes, vegetables, or beans and if I’m having a party. Lol. The good thing is it often gets into a quick conversation on health, weight loss, and a WFPB lifestyle and I’m glad about that!

Running With Autism

The rain gave a brief respite and we ran in a very wet yard. Nini said she felt much better, happier and less frustrated, afterwards. She’s had some autistic moments as we call them the last few days, including a short outburst at church which hasn’t happened in a while. Hopefully this morning’s run will help more. She has been trying to express for a week how she’s feeling but hasn’t been able to verbally (just acting out in some ways at home and school) until today. In the middle of the run she said she missed someone who has worked closely with her for the past few years but went on leave unexpectedly and abruptly. And I realized THAT’S what’s going on. I’m glad the run helped a bit and we were able to talk about it while we ran.

Have a blessed day.

Choose Health

Look, I’m always happy for that guy/gal featured in some news article or TV news who smoked a pack a day, drank hard liquor, ate candy bars, and STILL lived to 103 despite trashing his/her body for so long. These very small percentage of people have great genes going for them. Judging by how I was feeling in the picture below years ago, I don’t have those superb genes. And guess what, judging by the fact that about 70% of Americans (and the rest of the world is catching up fast) are overweight and obese, many dying painful deaths from heart disease, suffering needlessly from other lifestyle diseases such as type two diabetes, high blood pressure, etc…..

Neither.Are.Most.Of.You!

Neither are billions of people.

*So instead of using the outliers as Excuses for how it doesn’t matter what we eat so that we can continue to feed the processed, unhealthy food addiction, realize we have a CHOICE to choose a health promoting ,whole food plant based diet and lifestyle.

*And instead of using the excuse of “well everyone is saying something different” to continue eating crap, realize that we have the Freedom to research and CHOOSE to change.

*And instead of using as an excuse “well, there are so many different Plant Based diets, I don’t know which is better, CHOOSE One! When asked, I now tell people the answer is “the one you’ll stick with.” Commit. Once you commit, you’ll want to learn more and will adjust to what works well for your body. Don’t let indecision make you get stuck.

And for the naysayers, I’m well aware that we don’t live forever—at least not on this earth. But I always say, I definitely don’t want to be the cause of my own demise and trash my body—The Temple of the Holy Spirit—with junk until it gives out in a horrible, painful way.

Commit. Make a decision. Let’s not allow food and drink to become our gods. We thankfully have more information on health and access to quality foods now more than ever. A candy bar is a dollar. The fast food dollar menu is a dollar. But so is the frozen bag of broccoli and green beans I get from Stop and Shop market. Now is the time.

Rant over.
